The XE-Filter "Event Details" tab provides the capability to examine inbound email logs and the status of that email: Accepted or Refused.

Event Detail entries displayed in a black font were accepted and passed through XE-Filter.  Red entries indicated the the email was refused.

WORKING WITH WHITELISTS

Address information, in a highlighted Event Detail line, can automatically be added to either the "Sender Whitelist" or "IP Whitelist" database by selecting the appropriate "Add to WL" button.

Place email address in Sender Whitelist

MAILFROM Domain

Place email domain in Sender Whitelist

THE "REASON" COLUMN

Every eMail message processed by XE-Filter receives a three letter acceptance or refusal code that is displayed under the  "Reason" column.

Hovering the cursor over an entry in the Reason column displays an informational box with more details on the selected message.

The "Reason" column's three letter code is a brief explanation of the highlighted email's acceptance or refusal.  A message is refused when one of the filtering rules (banned country, blacklisting, DNSBL) is detected.

ALI

Allowed Internal eMail

ALC

Sending email servers IP originated in a country in the "Allowed Country" list

ALU Allowed eMail of an unknown type or sender

SWL

Sending email address is held in the local address whitelist

IPW

Sending email server's IP address is in the local IP whitelist

XE-FILTER Refusal Codes

SBL

Sender email address is in the local blacklist

IPB

Sending email server's IP is in the local blacklist

IPC

Sending email server's IP originates in a country in the XE-Filter banned country list

DNS

Sending email server's IP is in the DNS blacklist server (ex. spamhaus.org, spamcop.net)

 

The "Refusal Codes" are also contained as part of the non-delivery report (NDR) message that is returned to the email's originator.

VIEWING OTHER LOG FILES

When first displayed, the information shown is read from the current "EvtDetails.Log" file.  To examine other available Event Detail Log files, press the "Load" button.



When the load a pressed, a dialog box displaying all available Event Detail Log files is presented.  Highlight the desired file and press the "OK" button to load an archived log file.

The "Events" label is automatically changed to reflect the name of the newly displayed log file.

"ALLOWED" and "REFUSED" COUNTS AND PERCENTAGES

The "Allowed" and "Refused" counters and percentages displayed are for the currently loaded "EvtDetails.Log" file only.

Each log file represents inbound email activity for one 24 hour period from midnight to 11:59:59 PM daily.  When this period is complete, the current log is closed and a new one created with the first inbound email message received after midnight.
