DNS Blacklist Query

XE-Filter v2 now has the capability to query DNS blacklist servers and to check if the connection session's IP address of the originating mail server is found in a blacklist database.  If found, the message is refused.

This new XE-Filter DNS Blacklist Query is the fourth test performed on attempted inbound message transmissions after whitelist, blacklist and country-of-origin checks.

Learn more about XE-Filter's four layers of protection...

Blacklisted IP Caching

When XE-Filter gets the result of a DNSBL query that indicates the IP address is blacklisted, it automatically places that address into a locally held cache.

Subsequent queries on that same address are avoided, saving time.  This feature is very important during a spam surge.

This local cache is aged, by default for 24 hours.  An administrator can change this period under the XE-Filter Manager's DNSBL tab.

Enhanced "Banned" and "Allowed" Statistics

XE-Filter v2 filtering of "Banned" and "Allowed" messages is now additionally reported as a percentage to the first decimal place.

This offer a quick and more detailed glimpse into filtering activities.

Import Whitelist / Blacklist Addresses

The XE-Filter v2 Import facility simplifies the addition of IP address lists to the program's whitelist and blacklist operations.

External files, holding a mix of single IP address or ranges of IP addresses, are easily added to XE-Filter.  The administrator only needs to specify the file location and whether it contains whitelist or blacklist entries.

Automatic eMail Delivery of Filtering Statistics

The administrator has the option of enabling email delivery of a summary of XE-Filter message statistics.

Additionally, it is possible to define the delivery period as daily, weekly, monthly or on any specified number of days.

The summary report is generated at midnight and contains email statistics for the previous period.

DNSBL Trace Log Simplifies Problem Tracking

Should the DNSBL query fail, XE-Filter v2 offers the ability to create a "Trace File" of DNSBL activities for troubleshooting purposes.

This DNSBL Trace File has a maximum size of 10Mb and should only be enabled at the request of CMS Technical Support.  Once the maximum size is reached, further entries are stopped and the file must be deleted manually.

No SMTP Server Restart After Database Updates

XE-Filter v2 eliminates the need to restart the SMTP Server after the download of a new "Country-To-IP" database.

The in-memory copy of the database is updated immediately after a newly downloaded database is placed into the XE-Filter folder.
