Domino re-route of outbound messages through Praetor

When Praetor is installed and the corresponding change to the Domino SMTP server's receive port, your installation will be set up to filter inbound messages to your site from the Internet. In order for outbound messages to the Internet to be filtered by Praetor's outbound rules before being sent, another change to the Domino server's smarthost setting needs to be made. Otherwise, it will simply continue sending to the Internet directly, bypassing Praetor.

To change this setting in Domino, use the Administrator program and select the Configuration tab. If the Server object in the left pane is collapsed, expand it and select on the Configuration. The screen will appear as follows.

The above is a sample installation; you may have other server entries in the right pane. Choose the appropriate entry that you want to update with this change. In our case, double-click on the right pane entry for All Servers object, then selecting the tabs: Router/SMTP and Basics. The screen will appear as shown below when you choose to edit the entries on the page.

The setting that needs to be changed to route to Praetor is the highlighted field shown above accompanying the text Relay host for messages leaving the local internet domain. Enter the IP address of this machine with Praetor.

Note:

The IP address to be used must be the local address visible to the Domino servers within the protected side of your network.

To have this change take effect, you must stop and re-start the Domino SMTP Server task. Click here to see how this is done.
