management software provider, today announced the availability of ES-Insight,
the first analysis tool designed to examine SMTP log file data and present it in
a coherent, logical manner. This SMTP-centric software utility let’s Microsoft
Exchange administrators easily access and use message information confusingly
buried in their SMTP server logs.
ES-Insight installs on any
networked PC with access to the Microsoft Exchange server’s SMTP log files. Log
files opened in ES-Insight are presented to administrators as an organized list
of messages, separated into inbound or outbound traffic. This message-centric
view replaces the chronological log file contents that are a confusing mixture
of recorded SMTP events from multiple threads. With ES-Insight arranging the
log file information in a more useful format administrators can easily search
for individual messages or any specific message criteria. Log entry details for
each message are then grouped together so no original information is lost.

The search and message
display filtering capabilities of ES-Insight simplify the use of SMTP log
files. Custom filters can be created to view only those message log entries
matching specific criteria such as sender or recipient email address.
ES-Insight cuts through the jumble of information recorded in the log data, and
presents only the requested message entries.
ES-Insight includes
analytical tools to generate reports showing IP address frequency and country of
origin for email traffic. High volumes of traffic from a particular mail server
or country could indicate denial-of-service or spam attacks, or other problems.
These reports help make administrators aware of the problem and take corrective
measures to protect the mail servers.
