Authentication method

When your user attempts to connect with PLGV via his/her web browser, they will be presented with the login screen that is dependent upon what authentication method you have selected in PLGV Admin.  When they supply their credentials, PLGV will

  1. Determine if the credentials can be authenticated

  2. Get their corresponding email address(es) if the authentication is successful

As installed PLGV is designed to first attempt to use the built-in Windows authentication when the URL of http://local-IP/PLGV/ is provided as the address for the browser.  If Windows authentication fails, the browser is automatically redirected to http://local-IP/PLGV/Weblogin.aspx which will then perform the authentication shown in the PLGV Administration program opening screen below.

The default is the SQL table authentication method.  This means it will check against a user table in the SQL database, which is how the default administrator login exists.  You can change the authentication method to use LDAP.  Here is information regarding the various authentication methods available.

  • Stand-Alone SQL table

Table-driven method for Lotus Notes/Domino, Novell GroupWise, or any non-Exchange site.  The table needs to be set up with:

  • Adding login and password information for each user

  • Adding all email addresses associated with the login

This is conveniently performed using the import facility found on the User tab page.

  • LDAP with Active Directory

This method uses a LDAP query to the Microsoft Active Directory for Exchange 2000 and 2003 servers.  While there is very little setup needed, users can only view their own quarantined messages (i.e. to their registered email address) and no others.

In the field provided, enter the IP address of the LDAP server.

If it is necessary to specify an account to perform such queries against your LDAP Server then check the box for Account with Read Access to LDAP Server, and enter that information in the fields provided.

  • LDAP with Exchange v5.5

This method uses a LDAP query to the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 server.  While there is very little setup needed, users can only view their own quarantined messages (i.e. to their registered email address) and none others.

In the field provided, enter the IP address of the LDAP server.

If it is necessary to specify an account to perform such queries against your LDAP Server then check the box for Account with Read Access to LDAP Server, and enter that information in the fields provided.

Also, you will need to enter the Exchange information for:

  • your organizational unit name (OU)

  • your organization name (O)

Press to save your authentication settings.
