Praetor requires installation on one of the following Windows operating system platforms:
Windows 2000 Professional
Windows XP Professional
Windows 2000 Server
Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Windows 2003 .NET Server
You will need to make certain that Windows is properly installed and configured with the latest Service Pack installed. This is very important if you intend to put this machine on the unprotected side of your firewall so that the latest security patches are in effect.
Also, if the platform has the non-server edition of Windows 2000 or XP, you must first insure that the optional Windows SMTP virtual server is installed and configured. This is a component of the Internet Information Server bundle and is not normally installed on Windows 2000 or XP Professional. It is possible to install just the SMTP virtual server software. Click here to see how to check if this component is installed and , if not then how to install it.
You may want to disable other Internet services such as the FTP server as these are not used by Praetor.
Please note that from an installation standpoint the use of a valid Windows user login is very important. Since Praetor will operate as a part of the SMTP virtual server service, the account used to log into Windows must have administrator privileges.
Warning:
If you have an anti-virus product installed to scan the local drive of the Praetor machine, please configure it so as not to scan any Praetor subdirectories. These locations may hold transient files that do contain virus, but those messages are being quarantined by Praetor. |
